Deadbeat Mom

So...I have a strong dislike for early release Wednesdays.  On Wednesdays, school is out 2 hours earlier for "teacher education".  Now, I have no problem with teacher education, I am a fan of teachers being smarter than your average bear, I mean they are responsible for educating my children.  However, Friday afternoons would be so much more convenient for me, and really, there are 3 months in the summer...Okay, I know I've offended all my teacher friends and my sister in a very feeble attempt to make myself feel better - on with the real story.

The other day I was out running errands with Dad and Libby (Dad was really bored so he agreed to errands with us) and I knew I had to be home by 4 to get to work for the evening, and Jacob usually gets home at 4:15.  Matt is usually home by 3:30, so I was covered for Jacob.  So I ask Dad to take Libby and I home around 3, so I can get ready for work and say hi to Matt before I leave for the evening.  As we pull into the driveway, Dad says "Nice, you left your keys in the door."  I say "I did not, they are in my hands" "Well, someone left keys in your door"...

Yes, alas, it was WEDNESDAY!!!  My sweet kiddo had been home since 2:15!!!
Me :"Jacob!  Why didn't you call me?"
Jacob: "I was just really hungry!  I ate 3 snacks, an apple, a pancake (leftover- he did not use the stove to cook pancakes!), and cheetos!"  "I wasn't scared, 'cause no bad guys got me" - well that's good because the keys were still in the door!

Note to self...cell phones are amazing things that can be set to remind you of important dates, time, etc.  Now I too have a special ring ring ring reminding me that I should probably be home on Wednesday afternoons at 2:15 to greet (and feed) this little boy who hopefully will someday grow up to be a responsible man in spite of his mom's crazy childrearing.
