A weekend of great hikes

The whole family had a long weekend - conferences at school=Thursday and Friday off, and Matt had that Friday off too, so we grabbed our shoes and water bottles and the grandparents and took off for some beautiful trails.  Fall is my favorite time of year- I  LOVE LOVE LOVE all of the colors changing and the cooler temperatures.  Here are alot of pics from the weekend.

First up: Mica Mines
There is apparently an old mica mine outside of Grand Junction.  I have lived here my whole life and have never done this hike. Slacker.  The trail is covered with leftover mica and quarts chunks, so its very glittery - felt like a fairy dust hike :)

Next stop: Goblin Valley
This is the weirdest place I have ever been. Looks like someone threw mud/clay all over the place.  We had a GREAT time running through all of the hoo-doos and playing hide and seek.

We also hiked Litte Wild Horse Canyon.  If you drive all the way out to the middle of nowhere to go to Goblin Valley, DO NOT miss this hike.  It was an incredible 2-3 mile long slot canyon - beautiful!  Matt said that the hike continues past where we turned around and comes back via a different canyon.  I can't wait until we can go back and try the other canyon.

Next stop: Hanging Lake, but better do another post for that one...
