Tomorrow is the last day of school. My first grader is almost a second grader! Jacob's class did a poetry reading night in their classroom. The teacher set up a little stage with microphone for them, and they each read their favorite poem. Then his teacher played a slide show of the kiddos throughout the year (which made us all teary-they were so much smaller at the beginning of the year!) and the kiddos showed us their school work portfolios from the year. Here's a video of Jacob reading his favorite poem,
Sunflakes by Frank Asch.
Sunflakes
If sunlight fell like snowflakes
gleaming yellow and so bright
we could build a sunman
we could have a sunball fight.
We could watch the sunflakes
drifting in the sky
We could go sleighing
in the middle of July
through sundrifts and sunbanks
we could ride a sunmobile
and we could touch sunflakes-
I wonder how they'd feel
